Simple Marinara Sauce

I don’t know why, but I find that when I make something from scratch it always tastes better. I don’t always have time for this sauce but when I do, it’s most definitely worth it! If you make a double batch you can freeze half and enjoy the extra goodness of your hard work another night without the extra time!
Canned sauces often have unnecessary sugar added and some homemade recipes include butter, this version is super easy to put together and replaces the butter with olive oil. Just grab these simple ingredients and let them simmer together for about 45 minutes, you barely even have to stir it!
2 cans diced tomatoes (don't drain)
1 can tomato sauce
1 yellow onion peeled and quartered
2 garlic cloves
2 TBSP Extra Virgin Olive Oil
1 tsp Oregano
½ tsp Red Pepper Flakes
Salt to taste

Combine ingredients in a saucepot
Bring to a simmer for 15 minutes
Smush the tomatoes up with a spoon
Let simmer an additional 30 minutes
Try to crush the garlic and onions against the side of the pot or blend sauce smooth in a blender if desired.
Add a pinch or two of salt
Enjoy over some whole wheat pasta, zucchini noodles, spaghetti squash or homemade meatballs.
